Chicago-based artist Jeffly Gabriela Molina, originally from Táchira, Venezuela, showcases a selection of her paintings. Molina attained her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2016. Her artistic vision draws inspiration from narratives of migration and everyday existence in both Venezuela and the United States.
Exploring Identity Through Art
Molina’s series titled “How One Becomes What One Is?” delves into figurative and still life compositions. This body of work serves not only as an inquiry but also as a declaration, reflecting Molina’s personal journey encompassing notions of home, family, and labor.
Capturing Life’s Essence
Through her imagery, Molina encapsulates individuals, rituals, and encounters that have molded her existence and sense of self. Her collection of single-object still lifes, termed “Homemade Sculptures,” offers a poignant exploration of the endeavor to establish a sense of belonging after enduring years of questing.
Nostalgic Reverie
Within her artworks, Molina intertwines representations of family members, ancestors, and spectral presences with a contemporary narrative that pays homage while seeking comprehension. Family portraits evoke a distant era, conjuring a nostalgic rendition of Venezuela’s yesteryears, transmuted by the wistful sentiments of today.
