Architectural Fusion

The entire envelope of the building, encompassing facades, roofs, pergolas, and ceilings, boasts 45,000 pieces integrated into the prefabricated Flexbrick® ceramic fabric. This integration not only pays homage to historic brick buildings but also serves as an effective solar control element.

Facade Composition

Each piece of the facade features a terracotta finish on the exterior, echoing the aesthetic language of nearby historic pavilions. On the interior face, polychrome glazing is used, drawing inspiration from the vibrant modernist domes visible to occupants from within. The intricate latticework of the ceramic fabric creates a rhythmic design that dynamically changes throughout the day in response to the sun’s position.

Emphasis on Sustainability

Hospital Sant Pau is designed with stringent bioclimatic criteria to achieve optimal energy efficiency. The incorporation of Flexbrick’s ceramic fabric aligns with the most demanding contemporary parameters in sustainability and circular economy principles. The project’s outstanding energy savings earned it an A Energy Certification, coupled with minimal environmental impact recognized by a Leed Gold certification.
