Flexbrick Ceramic Fabric Facade: Sibiu Festival Centrum Project
Explore the innovative use of Flexbrick’s ceramic fabric system in the facade of the Sibiu Festival Centrum, merging functionality and aesthetics inspired by mid-century American shopping centers.
Architectural Inspiration
The Festival Centum mall in Sibiu embraced Flexbrick’s ceramic systems for its facade, drawing inspiration from the design ethos of American shopping centers from the 1950s and 1960s. This vibrant mall encompasses over 160 commercial spaces alongside an open biophilic roof space, creating a dynamic and inviting environment.
Modern Approach to Brick Materiality
The facade’s design pays homage to the brick materiality of urban spaces, albeit in a non-traditional manner of brick placement. This innovative approach not only adds a touch of nostalgia but also enhances performance levels while preserving the elegant aesthetic reminiscent of skilled bricklayer craftsmanship.
Innovative Features
The mall’s rounded ramp leading to the car park features innovative curtains made of Flexbrick’s ceramic fabric. These curtains create a partially opened facade, encircling the cylindrical form with a visually appealing boundary rail that defines an open terrace space on the top level. This design element seamlessly integrates with the slashed walls, contributing to a rhythmic visual experience.
