Timothée Chalamet, renowned as a distinguished Cartier brand ambassador, has been steadily exploring the maison’s collection of elegant and refined dress watches.
His journey began with the dual-time Tank showcased on a red carpet in September 2022, followed by the Panthère Mini worn courtside last December and recently in Mexico City, and the dazzling diamond-studded Crash at the Golden Globes. While these watches have all captivated admirers, they must now yield the spotlight to Chalamet’s latest horological masterpiece.
In a momentous revelation, Chalamet unveiled arguably his most exquisite Cartier watch yet—the stunning Cintrée in Platinum from the Rééditions sub-collection. Launched last fall and limited to just 150 pieces, it succeeded the striking gold edition introduced in 2021 to commemorate the model’s centenary. Encased in a 23mm x 46mm platinum case, the Cintrée boasts a larger size for a Tank, emphasizing its unique curvature designed to wrap around the wrist like a cuff.
Powered by the manually-wound Cartier Calibre 9780 MC (also known as the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 849), the watch exudes vintage charm with its off-white eggshell dial adorned with Roman numerals and a chemin de fer minute track. Notably, it features Breguet-style hands, a departure from the conventional sword-shaped hands. Despite its vintage inspiration, the watch incorporates modern enhancements, including a ruby-set crown and a slim profile of just 6.03mm thickness, with the movement contributing only 1.85mm to its height.
Priced at $38,500, the Tank Cintrée Les Rééditions stands as a coveted collector’s piece, appealing to dedicated enthusiasts of the maison’s craftsmanship. While its simplicity may belie its hefty price tag, the Cintrée epitomizes elegance in its purest form. Cartier’s tradition of releasing anniversary editions of the Cintrée underscores its enduring allure and timeless design, making it a perennial favorite amidst ever-changing fashion trends.
Director Denis Villeneuve, known for his work on “Dune,” may find himself slightly overshadowed, having worn a delightful Tank Française de Cartier to the film’s premiere. However, there’s solace in the abundance of exquisite Tank models awaiting their moment to shine on the wrist at future events.
